Technical Lead – 12-Month Initial Contract

Location: Newcastle preferred (hybrid – initial team meet-up and occasional on-site days)

About the Opportunity

Nology is partnering with the Department for Tech Consultancy to find an experienced individual who can lead technical delivery, set engineering standards, and mentor others in a collaborative, agile environment.

This is a long-term contract role for someone who thrives on solving complex problems, driving innovation, and ensuring engineering excellence. You’ll work closely with stakeholders, influence architectural decisions, and contribute to high-impact projects that affect millions of users.

What You’ll Be Doing:
  • Design, develop, and maintain secure, scalable applications using Java and NodeJS.
  • Build and optimise backend services and integrations with Mongo

    DB and other No

    SQL databases.
  • Implement and manage CI/CD pipelines using Git Lab CI.
  • Develop cloud-native solutions leveraging AWS services (SQS, SNS, ECS, Lambda, KMS).
  • Work with Apache Kafka for event-driven architectures.
  • Apply TDD and unit testing best practices.
  • Use Docker for containerization and Terraform for Infrastructure as Code.
  • Coach and mentor team members, fostering a culture of growth and innovation.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical audiences.
