Reporting to the Supervisor of Water/Wastewater, the Water/Wastewater Operator will primarily be responsible for the operations, monitoring and maintenance of the Town’s municipal drinking water systems, small drinking water systems and wastewater collection systems to ensure the safe delivery of potable drinking water and reliable wastewater services to our community while ensuring regulatory compliance.

This position performs a wide variety of maintenance and operational activities on these systems including, but not limited to, water sampling, infrastructure inspections, maintenance and repair of water and sewer infrastructure, sanitary pump station maintenance and the collection, water meter installation, reading and repair, and recording of operational data. This position investigates and responds to inquiries from the public, contractors, and utilities in a prompt and professional manner.

In addition, operation and maintenance of tools and equipment including pumps, pipe locators, gas detectors, confined space, CCTV equipment, and heavy equipment such as dump trucks, loader, trench boxes, etc.

Candidates must possess a valid Class 1 Water Distribution Operator certificate and a Class 1 Wastewater Collection Operator certificate; with a preference for Class 2 Wastewater Collection certificate. The preferred candidate will also have three years related work experience and knowledge of water distribution and wastewater collection systems operation, components, and maintenance. Civil Engineering Technology or Environmental Technology Diploma and eligible for Certified Engineering Technician (C.Tech

or CET) designation from the Ontario Association of Technicians and Technologists (OACETT) is an asset. DZ driver’s license with the ability to operate heavy equipment is an asset. You also bring strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively, professionally and courteously work with all levels of staff, external contacts and the general public; ability to work in a team environment, and possess a strong understanding of the following legislative regulations:
Safe Drinking Water Act (2002) and its Regulations, the Ontario Water Resources Act and its Regulations, the Ontario Drinking Water Quality Management Standards (DWQMS), O.Reg 169/03 Ontario Drinking Water Quality Standards, O.Reg 170/03 Drinking Water Systems, O.Reg 128/04 Certification of Drinking Water System Operators and Water Quality Analysis, O Reg 129/04 Licensing of Sewage Works Operators, and O.Reg 225/14, Water Taking.

Must have the ability to work rotational on-call, evenings, weekends, and overtime as required.

Rate of Pay
: $87,578 - $103,027 (Band 5 – 2026 rates)
