Job Description

This position is unionized and as such all UFCW 175 members will be considered first before other internal and external applicants.

Accountabilities
  • Ensuring cleanliness and maintenance of the facility by performing daily cleaning tasks.
  • Utilising a daily checklist for cleaning, sanitising and updating tasks as they are completed.
  • Cleaning and sanitising the building systematically and thoroughly: floors, walls, windows, appliances, fixtures, washrooms, dorm rooms, transitional rooms, kitchen/dining room, lounge, offices, hallways, entrance ways, furniture, etc.
  • Sanitising during outbreaks following breakout policies and procedures.
  • Assisting in training new housekeeping staff and providing ongoing support and guidance.
  • Following protocols set out by YHSS, TSA and by Public Health.
  • Restocking inventory supplies for cleaners, linens, towels and providing ordering information – weekly.
  • Verifying and checking weekly the expiry dates of all products and usage.
  • Ensuring all chemicals are set up in MSDC—Materials Safety Data Sheets and are accessible.
  • Ensuring Health and Safety compliance for use of chemicals and preventive measures for injuries.
  • Removing all garbage and recycling onsite to the dumpsters per shift.
  • Removing garbage/recycling from client rooms every other shift.
  • Carrying out seasonally appropriate responsibilities (snow shoveling, salting or sanding of steps, doorways, or walkways in winter).
  • Carrying out all responsibilities in a professional manner and being a positive role model for residents.
  • Adhering to standards consistent with the mission of The Salvation Army.
  • Updating the Dietary and Environmental Services Coordinator on maintenance issues.
  • Posting the cleaning checklist in common areas and filing completed ones in the cleaning binder.
  • Signing off sheets for turnovers on a daily basis.
  • Preparing inventory order sheets for approval by the Dietary and Environmental Services Coordinator before placing orders.
Working Conditions
  • Perform other duties as required.
  • 84 hours bi‑weekly.
  • Lifting, bending, standing for long periods.
Education, Qualifications and Certifications
  • Completion of Grade 12.
Experience and Knowledge
  • Preference for cleaning experience in a residential/facility environment.
Skills and Capabilities
  • Practical cleaning skills; attention to detail.
  • Understanding of how to handle cleaning products safely, including harsh chemicals.
  • Numeracy skills to measure cleaning fluids.
  • Ability to operate cleaning tools such as steam cleaners and floor buffers.
  • Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks, including The Salvation Army Abuse Registry, and produce an original copy of a background check with vulnerable sector screening.
  • Willingness to develop an understanding of and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada.
  • Assisting in organising and inventorying cleaning supplies and equipment.
  • Identifying and reporting repairs or maintenance needs to the Dietary and Environmental Services Coordinator.
  • Assisting in setting up and breaking down rooms for events and meetings.
  • Ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations and policies.
  • Responding promptly and courteously to inquiries or requests from guests or staff.
Compensation

The target hiring range for this position is $18.41 to $18.41, with a maximum of $18.41. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
