Imaging Assistant Job overview

Be responsible for providing a range of personal care to patients and for carrying out a range of clinical duties under the guidance of a registered healthcare professional. Undertake high quality, caring and compassionate personal care/clinical and associated duties under the direction and supervision of the registered professional both independently and working as part of the multi‑disciplinary team.

As an Imaging assistant you make a valuable and important contribution to the delivery of high‑quality healthcare in the Trust, at the Community Diagnostic Centre in Newmarket and at our community sites in Thetford and Sudbury. Your role is to support the registered professional in the delivery of safe, effective, compassionate care to patients and their relatives.

Initially you will be based at West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust until your training is completed, thereafter this post will be based at the Community Diagnostic Centre in Newmarket.

Main duties of the job

  • Support moving and handling, use of mobility aids, correct patient positioning, and observe for pressure areas and skin integrity. Report findings to service manager/senior colleague if appropriate.
  • Proactively review patient’s medical record/history to obtain relevant information in order to proceed with the examination/procedure for example e‑GFR and previous imaging. Seek advice from senior radiographer or nurse if below set threshold.
  • Organise/book relevant additional tests as required to ensure appropriate patient management and preparation e.g. pre‑hydration requirements.
  • Develop positive relationships with parents, families and carers as required for the duration of the examination/procedure. This involves developing trust and confidence in a very short space of time.
