Pertemps Isle of Wight are delighted to be supporting our client in their search for an experienced Interim Transport Manager. This role is central to ensuring the safe, efficient, and fully compliant operation of a busy HGV fleet.
The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining full legal and environmental compliance across all fleet activities. While the position does not include direct line management of drivers, it requires close collaboration with operational teams and drivers to ensure day‑to‑day transport activity is coordinated, safe, and compliant.
Key Responsibilities Compliance & Fleet Management- Ensure all HGV operations meet Operator Licence (O Licence) requirements, including preventative maintenance, MOT scheduling, inspections, and defect rectification.
- Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date records for vehicle maintenance, inspections, tachographs, and driver hours in accordance with DVSA and company standards.
- Act as the nominated CPC Transport Manager on the O Licence, if required.
- Liaise with external workshops, hire providers, and contractors to guarantee vehicle availability and regulatory compliance.
- Work closely with Operations Managers and service delivery teams to align transport activity with operational schedules.
- Ensure vehicle readiness and availability to meet daily service requirements.
- Support efficient route planning and transport movements to minimise environmental impact and fuel consumption.
- Monitor vehicle condition and utilisation, highlighting issues that may affect service delivery or compliance.
- Promote a safety‑first culture within all transport operations.
- Support safety initiatives, including contributing to vehicle‑related risk assessments, safe systems of work, and toolbox talks (in a supportive rather than managerial capacity).
- Ensure environmental standards are consistently maintained, particularly regarding emissions, fluid management, and load containment.
- Maintain transport documentation to ensure full readiness for DVSA inspections and audits.
- Produce accurate reports on fleet usage, compliance status, and relevant transport KPIs.
- Assist the wider operations team with any investigations relating to vehicle compliance, incidents, or operational concerns.
- Transport Manager CPC (National or International) - Essential
- Full UK Driving Licence - Essential
- HGV Category C or C+E Licence - Desirable
- IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent - Desirable
