About the Opportunity

Sterling Engineering is partnering with an established, global manufacturing company in Newport, TN, to hire an Engineering Manager. This is an exciting opportunity to lead engineering operations at a facility undergoing significant growth and transformation, supporting both established appliance manufacturing and expanding HVAC product lines.

We're looking for a hands-on engineering leader who enjoys being on the manufacturing floor, developing engineering talent, and driving improvements in production efficiency, equipment reliability, quality, and cost. This opportunity is ideal for an experienced Engineering Manager or a Senior Engineer with proven leadership experience ready to take the next step.

What You'll Do

• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of engineers and technical professionals.
• Oversee engineering activities supporting daily manufacturing operations.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, productivity, and cost reduction.
• Partner with Production, Quality, Maintenance, and Operations to troubleshoot manufacturing and equipment issues.
• Lead engineering projects from concept through implementation, including equipment upgrades, tooling, and process improvements.
• Support new product development, production launches, and manufacturing readiness.
• Improve equipment reliability, reduce downtime, and support preventive maintenance initiatives.
• Evaluate and implement new manufacturing technologies, equipment, and automation solutions.
• Develop and maintain standard operating procedures, work instructions, and engineering documentation.
• Manage engineering priorities, project timelines, resources, and deliverables.
• Support manufacturing process optimization across fabrication, welding, machining, and assembly operations.

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• 10yrs+ engineering experience within a manufacturing environment.
• Experience leading engineers, technicians, or technical project teams.
• Strong hands-on manufacturing engineering and problem-solving skills.
• Experience with continuous improvement, process optimization, and root cause analysis.
• Experience managing engineering projects and supporting new product launches.
• Ability to work effectively with Production, Maintenance, Quality, and Operations teams.
• Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
• Comfortable working directly on the manufacturing floor.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with metal fabrication, MIG welding, resistance welding, or wire-forming operations.
• Background in machining, assembly, or metal manufacturing.
• Experience with tooling, equipment design, and manufacturing automation.
• Knowledge of equipment reliability and preventive maintenance.
• CAD experience, preferably Solid Works.
• Experience with MRP systems, BOMs, manufacturing routings, and product costing.
• Background in both product engineering and manufacturing/process engineering.
