Community Gardener - D'Eynsford TMO Secret Garden, Southwark
Support the maintenance and development of the Secret Garden and the wider estate grounds, engaging residents in gardening activities throughout the year. This role requires a dynamic, community‑focused individual to plan and lead weekly workshops, provide horticultural expertise, and foster an inclusive, safe garden environment.
Application Timeline- Final date to receive applications:
Thursday, 22 January 2026. - Interview window for shortlisted candidates: 9–14 February 2026.
- Contract commencement: week beginning 6 April 2026.
- Deliver weekly gardening and outreach workshops for 12 months (6 April 2026 – 31 March 2027).
- Sessions average 5 hours per week: approximately 2 hours on weekdays and 3 hours on weekends—dates to be agreed.
- Plan and lead activities in the Secret Garden and across the estate, collaborating with the Garden and Grounds Committee.
- Open the Secret Garden for residents and visitors, welcoming and engaging them in gardening projects.
- Plan and promote special workshops and events such as seed swaps and wreath‑making sessions.
- Support ongoing maintenance, enhancement, and safety of the Secret Garden and estate green spaces.
- Create an inclusive, welcoming and safe garden environment for all participation levels.
- Plan and deliver activities suitable for families, children, older residents, beginners, and novices.
- Promote activities through on‑site engagement, notice boards, newsletters, the website, Whats App groups, and Instagram.
- Assist residents in developing basic gardening skills and confidence.
- Provide expert horticultural advice to the Committee and TMO Manager, supporting planting plans and coordinated maintenance.
- Identify funding opportunities and assist in drafting grant applications where appropriate.
- Maintain the Secret Garden to a high standard, ensuring it is tidy, safe and attractive.
- Ensure safe use, storage and maintenance of gardening tools and equipment.
- Source and order plants, materials and supplies in coordination with the TMO Manager.
- Maintain monitoring records such as attendance and activity logs.
- Liaise regularly with the TMO Manager and Committee Chair to review progress and priorities.
- Attend Gardening Committee Meetings.
- Demonstrable gardening or horticultural experience and experience working with community groups.
- Public liability insurance.
- Enhanced DBS check for working with adults and children (or willingness to obtain one before commencement).
- Complete the questionnaire and provide a supporting statement (maximum 500 words) outlining your gardening experience, community outreach background, and how you would encourage resident participation.
- Include your proposed hourly rate based on 5 hours per week for 12 months.
