Freelance General Foreman - Highways & Civils
12-Month Contract | Early 2026 Start | Peterborough / Norfolk / Cambridge

I'm currently recruiting on behalf of a reputable civil engineering and highways contractor who is looking to appoint an experienced Freelance General Foreman to support long-term works across Peterborough, Norfolk and the Cambridge area.

This is a 12-month freelance opportunity, starting early in the new year, working across an active scheme in Hethel as well as additional works around Cambridge.

The Role

· Supervising day-to-day site activities on highways and civil engineering schemes

· Managing operatives and subcontractors to ensure safe, efficient delivery

· Ensuring works are delivered in line with company procedures and health & safety standards

· Working closely with site management and engineering teams across multiple sites

Essential Requirements

· Proven experience supervising a broad range of civil engineering projects

· Strong background in highways environments

· CSCS card

· SMSTS

· EUSR

· Health & Safety at Work qualification

· Good working knowledge of site processes and company procedures

Desirable (Not Essential)

· SEATS

· Temporary Works Supervisor

· Confined Spaces

Skills & Attributes

· Strong technical ability with a solid civils supervision track record

· Effective people management and team-working skills

· Clear and confident communication style

· Ability to work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders

· Reasonable IT skills, particularly within Microsoft Office
