Job Title:
Youth Worker/trainee Youth Worker
Hours:
22 hours per week for 12 months with potential for increasing hours and contract length subject to funding.
Salary: JNC scale for either Youth Worker or Youth Support Worker (Salary will depend on experience and qualifications, but this will meet/exceed NMW) plus pension contribution
Location:
Chirton and Riverside wards, but will be expected to travel for meetings, activities etc
Contract:

Job PurposeThe Phoenix Detached Youth Project is looking to hire a skilled Youth Worker or Youth Work trainee to join our experienced team of practitioners. The role will be to plan, deliver and evaluate high-quality youth work provision for young people aged Yr 7 to 25 in predominantly the areas of Meadow Well, Percy Main, Royal Quays, East Howdon and Chirton, supporting their personal, social and emotional development.
The role will involve working as part of a team to provide safe, inclusive and engaging spaces for young people, in a number of settings including centre-based and Detached settings.
- Engage and build positive relationships with young people from diverse backgrounds.
- Deliver informal education and activities that promote young people’s well-being, confidence, and life skills.
- Support young people to express themselves, have their voices heard, and make informed choices.
- Co‑design and lead youth sessions, activities, and programmes based on identified needs and interests.
- Work within safeguarding, health & safety and risk assessment frameworks.
- Maintain accurate records, monitor participation, and contribute to impact reporting.
- Liaise with schools, families and partner organisations where appropriate.
- Attend team meetings, supervision and training as required.
- Work evenings.
- Either a JNC-recognised qualification in Youth Work (e.g. BA/MA or Level 6 qualification) or be willing to work towards this.
- Experience of youth work.
- Ability to engage with young people from a range of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds especially those at risk of disengagement.
- Strong understanding of safeguarding and professional boundaries.
- Excellent communication, teamwork and reflective practice skills.
- Flexibility to work evenings, occasional weekends and residentials. A standard working week will involve 3 evenings including Fridays.
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
- D1 driving licence.
- Experience of detached or outreach youth work.
- Knowledge of local services and community needs.
- Experience of supporting young people with additional needs.
