Job Description & How to Apply Below
Location: West Vancouver

Located on the traditional, ancestral and unceded lands of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations, West Vancouver is a vibrant community on the North Shore and home to parks, beaches, and to sports, recreation and arts amenities. We are seeking employees with a passion for public service who share our commitment to creating a complete, inclusive, diverse and livable community. Our dedicated staff deliver services, operate facilities and run the programs that enhance the well-being of our community.

The West Vancouver Community Services Department has an opening for a Shower Program Host position.

Most people who visit the program live in their vans or cars and consider their lifestyle a choice that enables them a freedom not available to those tied to standard housing. Other participants live on the street or in parks. Many are regular or occasional visitors while some may be entirely new to the program. All are drop in visitors: no pre-booking of facilities is available.

The program offers participants a chance to socialise with one another and to receive helpful assistance such as snacks, water, grocery cards, toiletries and contact information for community resources and referrals.

The host will be responsible for:

  • Greeting, directing and assisting participants of the shower program;
  • picking up, laying out, and packing up supplies provided to participants, including snacks, water, toiletries, grocery cards and towels;
  • socializing with participants, answering questions and providing information about local support resources;
  • stats collection and reporting.
  • tracking supply levels of toiletries and laundering towels.

The preferred candidate will possess a passion for helping others and a keen interest in the management and delivery of community programs. Experience working with vulnerable and or unhoused populations or people who regularly access these resources or previous support work is an asset. A current BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence and access to a vehicle is preferred. The successful candidate is required to supply an acceptable Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector at their own expense.
