Northamptonshire Children's Trust is seeking an experienced Safeguarding Children's Manager to join our committed service on a locum basis. This is a key leadership role providing oversight of high-quality safeguarding practice and ensuring that children and young people across the county are safe, supported, and protected.
About the RoleThe Safeguarding Children's Manager will lead on complex safeguarding decision‑making, offer management oversight, and drive consistent, high‑quality practice across teams. The role requires strong partnership working with statutory and community partners, ensuring compliance with national legislation and local safeguarding procedures.
Key ResponsibilitiesProvide senior leadership and oversight across safeguarding services.
Lead and guide practitioners and team managers in complex safeguarding cases, ensuring timely, child‑focused decisions.
Ensure practice is aligned with statutory duties under the Children Act and local safeguarding arrangements.
Promote high‑quality multi‑agency working with partners including health, education, police, and early help.
Support service improvement, audit activity, and quality assurance processes.
Contribute to strategic planning and the continuous development of safeguarding practice.
DfE Requirements for Locum EngagementIn line with the Department for Education (DfE) rules for engaging agency social care managers, applicants must meet the following criteria :
- At least 3 years of substantive permanent experience within children's social care (as evidenced on CV).
- Must not have left a permanent role within the same geographic catchment area in the past 3 months.
- Must hold a recognised social work qualification and be registered with Social Work England.
Applicants who do not meet these mandatory criteria cannot be considered for this locum post.
