Position: Senior Anaesthetic / Scrub (Vascular) Practitioner

Job Summary

We are seeking a dynamic, highly motivated individual as Senior Anaesthetic Practitioner and Senior Vascular Scrub Practitioner in Main Theatre, Northampton General Hospital. The role covers six theatres in Main Theatre and four peripheral areas covering various specialty theatres such as General Surgery, Urology, Breast, Gynaecology, Vascular, Emergency Theatre, Robotic cases, Max Fax, ENT, Paediatric, Interventional Radiology and others.

Responsibilities
  • Lead by example, driving theatre utilisation and offering guidance to junior members.
  • Support Theatre Managers in all aspects of their role, including deputising, appraisals, sickness absence management, mandatory training, audits and staff deployment.
  • Coordinate the theatre and be flexible with management responsibilities to meet operational needs.
  • Maintain patient safety, risk management and quality improvement within the department.
  • Supervise junior staff, mentor and develop staff through CPD and training opportunities.
  • Assist with equipment maintenance, report faults and manage stock ordering and inventory.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, relatives, carers and team members, maintaining confidentiality and professional standards.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and support the implementation of change projects.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Essential: Educated to diploma or degree level, registered Anaesthetic Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner, evidence of continuing professional education, mentorship qualification.
  • More than 2 years post qualification experience in perioperative care, experience of mentoring and assessing in clinical practice, awareness of infection prevention, previous experience working with shared airways, paediatrics and emergencies.
  • Experience as Vascular scrub staff particularly in major I.R operations including EVAR, experience in stock ordering and management.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, ability to prioritise workload, excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work in stressful situations, ability to recognise and respond to urgent and emergency situations.
  • Desirable: Underwent ILS & PILS training, specific theatre training, management training or equivalent qualification, experience in theatres at band 6 level, experience in conducting training/development programme, experience in stock ordering and management.
