Job Summary
Fixed term Specialty Doctor in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery covering maternity leave until September 2026 at Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
Responsibilities- Assist routine patient care: examination, diagnosis and treatment planning on the ward and in the out‑patient department.
- Participate in ward rounds and monitor the progress of in‑patients.
- Effectively hand over patients to colleagues.
- Maintain written and electronic patient records, ensuring they are legible and dated.
- Assist or perform in‑patient operative procedures within scope of practice.
- Perform minor oral‑surgical procedures in the out‑patient setting.
- Prescribe and administer treatment in line with departmental guidelines and competence.
- Examine and diagnose patients in outpatient clinics, including cancer and new patients.
- Review patients in consultant clinics.
The appointment is within the Trust, not to a specific hospital. All employees, including the appointee, will be expected to implement the Trust's Clinical Governance programme, including active participation in clinical audit, quality improvement, guideline development, professional development, appraisal and risk management.

On‑call activity is exclusively at Norfolk and Norwich, accepting both local referrals and regional referrals from allied units in Great Yarmouth, Kings Lynn and Ipswich. The rota provides approximately a 1:1 non‑resident out‑of‑hours on‑call, covering week, night and weekend duties. Compensatory rest is included following on‑call and hours are monitored in line with SAS contracts. On‑call duties provide first‑tier coverage for the Maxillofacial service with consultant support.
