Job Description

We are looking for environmental professionals to join our teams that regulate industrial and waste installations across the East Anglian Region.

As a regulatory officer you will be at the forefront of protecting people and the environment from harm and securing environmental improvements. This is particularly important to deliver our aim to drive forward our climate ambitions and support green growth.

You will undertake compliance assessment activities at a range of industrial sites, ensuring permit compliance and making complex assessments of operators' ability to protect the environment, prevent pollution and optimise use of resources. At times you will set conditions under which a site may continue to operate and enforce these.

You will use your influencing and negotiating skills to secure best practice, often dealing with people at senior levels within industry and local communities. You will respond to and investigate incidents across our portfolio of sites, making sure preventive and protective action is implemented.

You will also be expected to take up an incident management role in the wider business which may include out of hours standby duties.

Responsibilities
  • Protect people and the environment from harm.
  • Secure environmental improvements and deliver on climate ambitions.
  • Conduct compliance assessment activities at industrial sites.
  • Ensure permit compliance and assess operators for environmental protection.
  • Set and enforce conditions for site operation.
  • Influence and negotiate with senior industry and community stakeholders to secure best practice.
  • Investigate incidents and implement preventive action.
  • Manage incident response and standby duties as required.
Qualifications

Proactive, self‑motivated, confident communicator with strong interpersonal skills. Well‑developed technical expertise and regulatory experience within an industrial environment.

A full UK driving licence is required, as is flexibility to travel for operational site visits and incident response. A vehicle will be made available for business travel in line with our travel policy.

Experience / Skills Preferred
  • Regulatory and/or industrial experience.
  • Familiarity with environmental management systems, auditing, and root cause analysis.
  • Ability to interpret environmental monitoring and performance data.
  • Experience managing multiple demands and delivering outcomes independently.
  • Initiative and continuous improvement mindset.
  • Degree or equivalent in a scientific, environmental, or engineering discipline.
Nice to Have
  • Membership of a relevant professional organisation such as IEMA or CIWM.
Employment Details

Posts will be based in one of our Installations Teams within Local Operations, located in either Colchester, Ipswich, Ely or Norwich office. The team works flexibly, delivering regulation at industrial processes including food and drink, chemical, landfill, and energy from waste sectors located in rural and urban areas of East Anglia.
