Position: Water Resource Officer - 32398

Job Overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual with a passion for the water environment to join the Water Resources Integrated Environment Planning team at the Environment Agency.

You will help protect and improve the quantity of water available for wildlife, people and future generations. You will be supported by Water Resource Specialists and work with others to gather, analyse, interpret and share evidence to maximise environmental outcomes and manage our highest risks.

Responsibilities
  • Manage local data and water resource information
  • Handle data such as analysis, mapping and modelling
  • Share and communicate evidence with others (internally and externally)
  • Lead on specific areas/projects for the team with the support of others
  • Support or lead on strategic planning activities such as input to local plans (e.g. Water Resource Management Plan)
  • Provide local advice on water resource licence applications
  • Contribute to drought planning and response
  • Seek and support integrated outcomes through partnership work with others
  • Provide technical administrative support to other team members
The Team

The Integrated Environment Planning (IEP) team is predominantly a water planning team with specialists in water resources, water quality and catchment planning. Working with area operational teams and national colleagues, we commission, analyse and share data and produce environmental plans that inform and drive East Midland’s area priorities. Our friendly team of advisors are at the heart of environmental decision‑making, facilitating integrated actions to solve complex problems.

Qualifications & Skills
  • Degree (or equivalent qualification) in a relevant environmental discipline
  • Good organisational skills, with the ability to plan, track, deliver and monitor work while managing multiple priorities
  • Broad technical knowledge along with strong interpersonal and team‑working skills
  • Good research and analysis skills, with the ability to make proportionate, evidence‑based inferences and proposals from information
  • Experience using data manipulation and visualisation tools such as Excel, ArcGIS or Power BI
  • Experience working and communicating with a range of customers and partners
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and share skills and experience

Base location at Nottingham with flexibility for hybrid working in agreement with line manager. Travel to other EA offices/overnight stays may, on occasion, be required. This role is being advertised as a permanent full‑time position; however part‑time working opportunities would also be considered.
