What you’ll be doing
Embark on a five-yearcontrol systems engineering apprenticeship and you’llplay a vital role in designing, developing and maintaining innovative systems that support critical operations across industries. This structured apprenticeship will equip you with the skills to create smarter, safer and more efficient systems.
You’ll work with diverse teams across the business through six-month placements while studying part‑timeat the University of Sheffield’s Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) for a fully funded
BEng (Hons) in Maintenance Engineering. Upon successful completion of your apprenticeship,
E.ON will continue to support you in achieving chartered status.
Throughout this apprenticeship, you’ll gain hands‑on experience in designing and implementing advanced control systems under the guidance of experienced engineers. Over the course of the programme, you’ll:
- Collaborate with a team to design, program, and test mission‑critical solutions for industry‑leading projects.
- Contribute to solving hardware and software challenges with innovative approaches.
- Support the configuration of secure infrastructure and communication protocols for system integration.
- Assist in the installation and commissioning of solutions at customer sites.
To join this exciting programme, you’ll need:
- GCSE English language and maths at grade C/4 or above.
- One of the following:
- A minimum of three A-Levels at grade B or above, including a mathematical‑based subject and a science, technology, engineering, or an additional mathematics‑related subject.
- An Engineering BTEC Level 3 with at least 120 credits at DM (Distinction Merit) level or above.
- An EAL Level 3 Diploma in an engineering‑based subject at Distinction level.
- Equivalent qualifications such as Technical Levels at DM or above.
- Skills:
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
- A hands‑on technical aptitude with an interest in solving real‑world engineering challenges.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft software products is advantageous.
- Personal qualities:
- Passion for control systems, engineering principles and emerging technologies.
- A proactive, team‑oriented attitude with the ability to work independently when required.
- Willingness to travel and adapt to new environments, with a full UK driving licence or a plan to obtain one being desirable.
- During your first year, you’ll attend the University of Sheffield AMRC Training Centre in Sheffield for an initial six‑month block of full‑time study. One Friday per month, you’ll return to your workplace – either Nottingham or Sheffield.
- On completion of the first study block, this apprenticeship will be based in either Sheffield or Nottingham, with travel to other locations expected. You’ll attend the training centre in Sheffield one day per week for knowledge‑based study, spending the remaining four days onsite gaining practical experience.
- We offer a starting salary of £21,500, with potential for pay progression throughout your apprenticeship based on academic and placement performance.
