TheOpportunity
As a Mechanical Building Services Engineer, you will play a key role in our Building Services Engineering team, contributing to multidisciplinary projects. You’ll provide guidance to graduates and oversee the work and development of apprentices involved in your projects. Based in either our Birmingham or Nottingham city centre office, you’ll be part of a team of over 30 mechanical engineers and technicians.
These offices form our Midlands Region and are part of a wider Property team of more than 110 civil, structural, electrical and mechanical engineers.
- Contribute to all stages of projects—from feasibility to completion—across sectors such as advanced manufacturing, healthcare, education, energy, sport, commercial and mixed‑use developments.
- Help clients progress toward zero carbon goals through innovative and sustainable design.
- Support Arup’s digital transformation by exploring automation and integrated digital design solutions.
- Ideally have an MEng degree in Mechanical, Architectural or Building Services Engineering and are working towards / close to obtaining Chartered Engineer status with a relevant institution (e.g. IMechE or CIBSE).
- Bring experience in Mechanical Building Services design for medium to large‑scale projects, including calculations and report writing.
- Demonstrate knowledge of low or zero carbon technologies and UK Building Regulations/CIBSE design guidance.
- Be proficient in BIM environments, particularly using Revit, and have experience with dynamic thermal modelling (preferably IES).
- Be enthusiastic about working across a diverse range of projects and sectors and be experienced enough to mentor and provide guidance to more junior members of the team.
