We’re connecting more clean energy to power the things you love. As the UK moves away from fossil fuels and increases clean energy generation, demand for electricity is expected to increase significantly, necessitating significant new infrastructure to connect energy from generation to demand. We’re seeking a Senior Surveyor / Surveyor to lead on the development and delivery of new infrastructure projects within our Land Teams as part of The Great Grid Upgrade – the largest overhaul of the electricity transmission network across England and Wales in generations.
You'll be part of a diverse land team providing expert land rights and acquisitions services for new electrical assets, in accordance with current legislation and guidance to ensure National Grid adheres to its licence obligations.
This role offers hybrid working from office and home. Our Head Office is based in Warwick, with office hubs in Leeds, Birmingham and London. You'll be flexible to travel to offices and project sites around the North of England; therefore a Northern base location is preferable.
Key accountabilities- Successfully develop & deliver land rights and acquisitions for infrastructure projects from development to construction, including access to land, securing land rights, and the negotiation of compensation settlements.
- Implement National Grid Lands Rights Strategy (and other supporting policies and procedures) in a transparent, credible, consistent and economic way.
- Report on programme, key milestone delivery, risk, contract and financial management on a regular basis. Identify and distil complex land issues clearly for key stakeholders.
- Communicate and manage internal and external stakeholder, landowner and customer requirements, providing excellent written and verbal communication with the ability to articulate complex ideas concisely to a range of audiences.
- Use a strong grasp of DCO/CPO processes to champion and raise the profile of the land team across projects and navigate complex lands challenges.
- Demonstrate strong financial acumen and advanced negotiation skills, including creative problem solving, to secure favourable outcomes when managing contractors and suppliers.
- Support the Senior Surveyors and Land Project Managers in the procurement and management of external resources to deliver lands activities.
- Share lessons learnt and best practice across the wider land team to drive consistency and continuous improvement.
- Support and mentor junior colleagues, providing coaching to deliver land rights efficiently and effectively.
We’re looking for someone with expertise in this field who has:
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to engage effectively with stakeholders (internal and external).
- Ability to manage competing stakeholder, landowner and customer requirements.
- Experience delivering start-to-finish land activities for utility projects including access to land, securing land rights, and negotiating compensation settlements.
- Experience working within multidisciplinary teams (engineering, legal, consenting) to support project delivery.
- Experience in project, programme, risk, contract and financial management, including accurate and timely customer reporting.
- Ability to manage projects to deliver outputs on time and within budget.
- Understanding of the legal and regulatory parameters relevant to National Grid, including statutory powers and consenting regimes (Planning Act 2008, Development Consent Order, Compulsory Purchase Order and compensation code).
- Desirable - degree-qualified (or equivalent) in a related discipline and/or working towards Assoc
RICS or MRICS.
- A competitive salary between £48,000 - £67,000 – dependent on capability.
- Market supplement of £3,000 per annum.
