Overview
IT Operations Support Engineer – University of Nottingham. Join our dedicated IT Operations team in Digital & Technology Services. This permanent role focuses on supporting on‑premise and cloud‑based services for our UK, China and Malaysia campuses, maintaining the availability and quality of central systems and services for the university.
Salary: £35,608 to £47,389 per annum pro‑rated on skills and experience.
Area: Enterprise Operations.
Location: Kings Meadow Campus.
- Provide 3rd line support, troubleshooting and restoring incidents to minimise downtime.
- Act as subject‑matter expert for backup and restore technologies, including VEEAM, VMware ESX and SQL database administration.
- Serve as primary service owner, ensuring services are fit‑for‑purpose, properly patched, and aligned with strategic roadmaps.
- Plan and implement planned maintenance and upgrades, working closely with other DTS teams.
- Play a key role in business continuity, major incident and problem resolution.
- Monitor systems to manage performance and network security.
- Proven experience with backup and restore technologies, VEEAM, VMware ESX, storage technologies and SQL database administration.
- High‑level experience supporting Windows server technology, Active Directory administration and Azure/Entra
ID/Microsoft 365. - Experience in large, multi‑technology network environments, supporting both on‑premise and cloud services.
- Monitoring system experience for performance and security management.
- Degree, professional qualification or equivalent relevant experience.
- Motivated self‑starter, ideally with ITIL experience and change support in a complex IT environment.
Permanent contract. Full time: 36.25 hours per week. Applications are also welcome from candidates wishing to work part‑time (minimum 29 hours per week). Specify your preferred hours; job share arrangements may be considered.
