Position: Domestic Cleaner (Weekend)

Contract hours: 4.67 – 9.34 (Saturday and/or Sunday)
Basis: Part time
Salary: £2,300.24 – £4,600.49 per annum
Location: Uppingham School

Job Purpose

To lead a team of Domestic Cleaners to provide a home‑from‑home experience for pupils by cleaning the houses and central buildings to the highest standards, and by serving meals and handling laundry. The role typically covers two distinct areas of work, although overlaps may occur.

Cleaning

Ensure the cleanliness of school central buildings is maintained to a high standard while working effectively and efficiently within a framework of good practice.

Domestic

In addition to cleaning, domestic duties include meal presentation, service and laundry. Pupils and conference delegates typically take breakfast, lunch and dinner in their own houses.

Responsibilities
  • Be courteous to colleagues and pupils, and create a welcoming environment for parents, contractors, conference delegates and other visitors.
  • Work independently to complete the daily/weekly tasks assigned by your line manager to a high standard.
  • Rotate individual areas as required and assist colleagues in other areas if needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness by washing, dusting, polishing, vacuuming and sweeping as appropriate.
  • Maintain the environment to a good state of comfort and cleanliness, including programmed deep cleaning of carpeted and non‑carpeted areas, soft furnishings, bedding, fixtures, fittings, windows and walls, and storage areas.
  • Notify your line manager in a timely manner of the need for replacement materials and equipment.
  • Comply fully with health & safety, hygiene regulations, infection control guidelines and best practice, as well as the school's health & safety policies.
  • Comply with chemical safety (COSHH) and wear protective clothing as required.
  • Keep issued uniform worn, clean, fresh and presentable.
  • Attend professional training as required.
  • Hand in any lost property promptly.
  • Assist with laundry operations as required.
  • Undertake other duties within the general scope of the post.
  • For house‑based staff:
    Work at special house functions (minimum eight evening events per year), serve in the dining room, respond to unusual events, wash and iron pupils’ clothes, clean domestic kitchenettes, and dispose of refuse.
