Network Telephony Systems Specialist – Halton Regional Police Service
Join our dynamic team as a full‑time Network Telephony Systems Specialist with the Halton Regional Police Service Information Technology Department and play a key role in shaping and maintaining cutting‑edge telephony, LAN, and WAN infrastructure. You’ll be responsible for deploying innovative solutions, ensuring network capacity, availability, and stability, and contributing to an essential public safety service.
About the Role – How you will Contribute to the Service:The Network Telephony Systems Specialist will provide specialized technical support services for managing, supporting, upgrading, and implementing HRPS telephony, LAN, and WAN infrastructure. The role involves planning, designing, spec‑ifying, testing, and implementing new or enhanced infrastructure solutions.
Key Responsibilities:- Deploying, configuring, and managing enterprise networking equipment including switches, routers, firewalls, and VPN appliances.
- Supporting and maintaining WAN equipment and circuits, datacenter networking infrastructure, and enterprise telephony systems.
- Administering and troubleshooting Webex and other enterprise collaboration platforms.
- Monitoring network traffic, performance, and health; identifying and resolving issues proactively.
- Creating and managing push policies, preparing schematics and diagrams for problem analysis, and documenting infrastructure decisions.
- Overseeing data cable installations and maintaining accurate records of circuits, dial plans, and network configurations.
- Obtaining quotes for new equipment and coordinating with vendors for procurement and support.
- Providing technical advice and recommendations on systems and infrastructure improvements.
- Offering backup support to the IT Service Desk and assisting with troubleshooting complex technical issues.
- Contributing to the development and documentation of operating procedures and standards.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Education, Certifications and
Qualifications:
Community college diploma in information technology, computer, communications networks, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or related experience.
Previous Experience, Knowledge and
Skills:
Minimum of 3 years of related work experience, including independent implementation and programming of Cisco switches, routers, wireless access points, wireless controllers, firewalls, VLANs, VPCs, Wi‑Fi, VPN, datacenter networking, Cisco Unified Communications, and WAN connectivity between sites. Proven ability to collaborate with vendors on multi‑site WAN connectivity and troubleshooting is essential. Experience with Webex, Cisco ACI, Next Generation 9‑1‑1, i3 standard, and network support tools is preferred, along with expertise in managing QoS.
