Position: Specialist Physiotherapist (Ambulatory Emergency Care – Whole System)

Argyll and Bute Health and Social Care Services help people from all walks of life, as well as their families or carers. Are you interested in being part of the Ambulatory Emergency Care Team based at Cowal Community Hospital, Dunoon? If so this is the post for you. Our overriding aim is to support individuals to maintain their independence at home, prevent unnecessary admission and support people to regain independence after they have left hospital.

An opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Physiotherapist to join the newly implemented Ambulatory Emergency Care Team on site. This service is a new initiative within the Cowal area, and is geared towards preventing unnecessary unplanned attendance, unplanned admission, onwards transfer by providing assessment, treatment and care in the right setting.

Our current Community Hospital Team consists of Rural Emergency Physicians, Senior Change Nurses, Staff Nurses and a range of AHPs and Social Workers who work collectively to deliver A&E and Inpatient services. Our service covers A&E, day services, trauma, inpatient services and ambulatory emergency care. The team also have direct interface with acute services within Greater Glasgow and Clyde (GGC).

The post holder will act to support the assessment, treatment and ongoing care planning/management for eligible patients as part of our alternatives to admission/Urgent Care Pathways. There will be a clear focus on specific clinical presentations, in line with available expertise and diagnostic capabilities on site. The unit will actively contribute towards our AHP and Frailty at the Front Door approach.

As well as supporting the Hospital MDT, the post will be expected to provide vital leadership, teaching, quality improvement and audit worksteeams which enable our Practitioners to achieve the four pillars of practice. There is also an expectation of cross‑cover/co‑working with our Enhanced Community Care Team to support rapid community response, enablement and reablement.

Please see the Job Description for full detail of duties. These are fixed‑term posts, ending 30/11/26, working from 8am to 8pm over 5 days on a rota basis in line with service requirements. Shift patterns are subject to change in line with demand.

It is essential that you possess a Diploma/BSc/MSc in Physiotherapy and are HCPC registered. You must have permission to work in the UK.

Responsibilities

Provide assessment, treatment and ongoing care planning/management for eligible patients within the Ambulatory Emergency Care Team. Deliver specialised physiotherapy services in line with (U)
AC pathways and Frailty at the Front Door approach. Support the Hospital MDT and Enhanced Community Care Team through leadership, teaching, quality improvement and audit initiatives.

Qualifications

Diploma/BSc/MSc in Physiotherapy, HCPC registration and permission to work in the UK. Experience in A&E, day services, trauma, inpatient services or ambulatory emergency care is highly desirable.
