Electronic Design Engineer Placement Student

Penultimate year students are invited to join our Electronics team for a 12‑month office‑based placement in Oldham, Greater Manchester, starting in Summer 2026.

This placement provides the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge to the design of analogue, digital and opto‑electronic systems for our state‑of‑the‑art cash handling products.

• Assist Design Engineers throughout product development—from concept design and rapid PCB prototyping to final testing and verification.
• Test and validate new designs and resolve issues with existing products.
• Create schematic entry and PCB layouts using CAD tools.
• Help with EMC and safety testing.
• Support Component Engineers in identifying suitable components based on performance, cost and availability.
• Conduct verification testing and fault‑finding on PCB prototypes and pre‑production samples.
• Own smaller prototype builds, ensuring they meet requirements and are delivered on time.
• Participate in external EMC compliance testing.
• Communicate certification and approval status to the wider business.

• Competent with oscilloscopes, multimeters and SMD soldering equipment.
• Familiar with electronics CAD software (schematics and PCB layout).
• Ability to read and understand analogue and digital circuits and component datasheets.
• Understanding of firmware interfacing with hardware, especially communications and optical sensing.
• Good communication skills and teamwork, asking questions and sharing ideas.
