Under general supervision of the Lead Engineer, the NPD Design Engineer is responsible for design efforts from inception through production in new product development. The focus will be on Mobile Plants – self‑powered and self‑contained rock crushing and screening plants mounted on a tracked platform.

The successful candidate will work in collaboration with other engineers and cross‑functional teams including sales, manufacturing, purchasing and service.

Responsibilities include:

• Develop conceptual and final design solutions for mobile crushing and screening equipment.
• Manage and coordinate project activities and support existing product offerings.
• Perform testing or analysis of new and existing products to further Astec’s product line development goals.
• Support designs through procurement, build and test stages.
• Collaborate with leading technologies and software such as Solid Works, FEA, ERP systems.

• Follow and actively support all company policies and procedures, with a primary emphasis on safe operations.
• Minimum bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Agriculture, Mechatronics, Industrial Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in equipment design and manufacturing (mechanical, structural, hydraulic and electrical/control system design).
• Ability to take responsibility for project completion, achieving due dates and predefined requirements with minimal supervision.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, 3‑D CAD software (Solid Works preferred), ERP systems.
• Ability to develop and/or guide necessary computations such as load development, stress analysis, performance measurement, hydraulic circuit analysis, costing, and interpret the results.
• Understanding of the engineering design process and new product development.
• Ability to read, interpret and create engineering drawings and standards.
• Understanding of materials and material sciences related to engineering decisions and material selection.
• Ability to make a financial and technical case for engineering design decisions.
• Understanding of manufacturing practices including cutting, forming and welding of metals.
• Maintain positive, cooperative working relationships with customers, vendors, co‑workers and management.
• Good organization and time‑management skills.

• Experience in the design of complete Mobile Crushing or Screening plants from concept through to production.
• Experience in the use of FEA.
