An accountant is responsible for managing financial records, preparing reports, and ensuring that all transactions follow local and international accounting standards. They often handle tasks such as keeping track of income and expenses, managing budgets, checking for errors in financial documents, and ensuring that taxes are paid correctly and on time. Accountants may also prepare monthly, quarterly, and yearly financial statements to help companies understand how they’re doing.
Whether working alone or in a team, accuracy and attention to detail are critical. They also advise on financial data to help managers and other departments make better decisions, and may work with auditors, payroll, or billing. Senior or chartered accountants may lead teams or train new hires. They can work in banks, offices, schools, or from home, depending on company needs.
