If you are an ambitious go-getter who enjoys solving problems and learning new skills, our 12-month Industrial Placement provides a clear pathway into a rewarding career in banking.

With no shareholders, you'll deliver real impact by shaping products and services for our 16 million members.

Alongside your role, you'll build strong relationships across Nationwide. You'll also take part in development workshops and collaborate on a Social Impact project with other placement students, broadening your skills and experience further.

Get more from your placement year as you thrive within our high-performance culture, experience hands‑on learning, tailored training, and a strong support network.

Where you'll be working

Our Mortgages function brings together 3,000 colleagues, all working towards our mission to provide the best mortgage service in the UK. You'll work across our high‑performing Mortgages Product teams, developing skills in product design, insight creation, and project management. You'll gain hands‑on experience in pricing, performance, customer research, and process improvement.

What you'll be doing

On the Product and Project Management, Mortgages Industrial Placement, you'll gain the knowledge, skills and network to prepare you for a rewarding career in banking.

You’ll focus on building product knowledge and understanding performance, while contributing to product design, customer research, and process improvement across multiple projects. With rotations across the Mortgage Product team, you’ll gain exposure to areas including pricing, customer insight, product development, and process efficiency, giving you a rounded view of how we deliver impact every day.

During your rotations, you’ll build skills and knowledge across :

  • Mortgage pricing, learning how we price our products to meet member needs whilst delivering the right commercial return
  • Product development, helping us launch new products to meet member needs
  • Data and insight; building skills in data analytics to help us understand our customers better
  • Customer management, ensuring our products meet customer needs, deliver fair outcomes and operate in line with regulations

During the year you’ll develop new analytical skills and commercial judgement, as well as giving you the opportunity to take insight and proposal papers to senior leaders and committees.

Alongside your placement, you’ll take part in a 12‑month project aligned to our Social Impact strategy, developing core business skills and applying them in a new context beyond your day‑to‑day role. You’ll also build a strong community, working with other placement colleagues to deliver meaningful impact together.
