Project Communications Officer
Join Balfour Beatty as a Project Communications Officer on a 12-month fixed-term contract and play a visible role in how we inform, involve and inspire the communities we serve. You’ll enhance and protect the partnership’s reputation through smart, timely communications and meaningful community engagement—helping us meet project and regulatory KPIs.
What you’ll be doing- Plan & deliver integrated internal and external communications, making sure the right people get the right information at the right time.
- Own a live comms plan for the project—spotlighting expertise, raising profiles and building trust locally; support national campaigns like National Apprenticeship Week and Armed Forces Day.
- Coordinate content & channels across the project comms team with simple planning systems and clear workflows.
- Partner with operations & customer services to understand service‑delivery needs and resource comms support effectively.
- Identify and manage issues—proactive and reactive updates, plus local support for media enquiries.
- Engage the community through letter drops, newsletters, presentations and school/college outreach.
- Collaborate with clients and stakeholders on ongoing engagement plans; deputise for the Business Manager in working groups.
- Drive colleague engagement to reinforce corporate messages, operational changes and safety initiatives.
- Advise leaders with updates, insights and evaluation reporting; celebrate successes and protect the Balfour Beatty brand.
- Share best practice across our comms community; draft award submissions and work‑winning case studies.
- Manage budgets & records in line with contractual requirements.
- Degree (or equivalent) in Marketing/PR/Communications or 2+ years’ relevant experience.
- Experience on construction/civil engineering infrastructure projects.
- First‑class writing, storytelling and presentation skills; confident with varied audiences.
- A self‑starter who can juggle priorities and deadlines.
- Strong stakeholder and community relations skills; able to influence and negotiate.
- Analytical, solutions‑focused and media‑aware.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- CIPR membership/qualification.
- CSCS card.
- Awareness of regulatory frameworks across construction/rail/utility sectors.
