Salary: £61,542 – £99,216 per annum |
Contract: Fixed term: 6 months with potential to extend.
The Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust seeks four full‑time Specialty Doctors in Palliative Care for a minimum of 6 months, with the possibility of a longer term. The appointed doctors will be based primarily at either Woodlands Hospice on the Aintree site or the new specialist palliative care in‑patient unit at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital site. Duties will be within in‑patient palliative care settings, with opportunities to support ambulatory (Woodlands and Marie Curie Hospices) and hospital‑based services (AUH/RLUH site) depending on skills and experience.
Responsibilities- Support patients and their carers admitted to the in‑patient unit at Woodlands Hospice / LHCH palliative care unit or presenting to IMPaCT medical clinics.
- Collaborate with Hospital Specialist Palliative Care teams to review patients under the service within acute hospitals and the Community Specialist Palliative Care teams (AUH site) to undertake crisis intervention domiciliary visits for patients whose preferred place of care is home.
- Provide medical advice and support to the IMPaCT hub, with senior colleague guidance, and conduct face‑to‑face and telephone patient reviews in the ambulatory medical clinic.
- Assist with audits, quality governance and multi‑professional team management, including conflict resolution.
- Potentially teach basic palliative care skills to non‑specialist clinical staff.
Essential criteria
- Full GMC registration and licence to practice.
- Four years full‑time postgraduate training, two of which must be in relevant acute specialties (or equivalent experience).
- MBBS or equivalent.
Desirable criteria
- Postgraduate qualification of Diploma in Palliative Medicine, MRCP or equivalent.
Essential criteria
- Training and clinical work experience in Palliative Medicine, including a placement in a specialist palliative care in‑patient setting.
- Experience in treating primary and secondary malignant disease, and symptom control in non‑malignant conditions.
- Knowledge of and experience with symptom control.
- Ability to undertake audits.
- Understanding of quality governance principles.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a multi‑professional team and manage conflict.
Desirable criteria
- Experience teaching basic palliative care skills to non‑specialist clinical staff.
- Core research skills and willingness to embrace a research culture.
