Job Overview
We are seeking a 0.6
WTE Consultant in Palliative Medicine to join an enthusiastic and committed team providing support to patients within Liverpool and South Sefton.
Position: 0.6 WTE Consultant (Part time – 6 sessions per week). Salary: £109,725 – £145,478 per annum pro rata.
Contract:
Permanent. Site: AUH (Woodlands Hospice), Liverpool. Grade: YC72. ‑AMED‑349‑25. Closing date: 20/01/2026 23:59.
- Provide consultant medical cover within the Integrated Palliative Care Medical Team across the sites.
- Deliver 6 programmed activities per week (1.5 hrs per day on weekends, cross‑cover support, community visits).
- Support the in‑patient unit at Woodlands Hospice.
- Support ambulatory/out‑patient services within IMPaCT North and the virtual ward.
- Participate in the second on‑call medical rota (weeknights 5pm‑9am, weekends 5pm Friday‑9am Monday) covering North Liverpool/South Sefton locality.
- Provide remote virtual ward support and compensatory TOIL.
- MB ChB (or equivalent) / MBBS (or equivalent) and MRCP(UK).
- Full registration with the GMC and licence to practice.
- Entry on GMC Specialist Register for Palliative Medicine via CCT (or proposed CCT date within 6 months of interview) or CESR/European Community Rights.
- Broad experience in management of palliative care patients in all settings.
- Evidence of continuing medical education.
- Advanced communication skills and evidence‑based clinical judgement.
- Evidence of delivery of palliative care and communication skills education to undergraduate and postgraduate students.
- Understanding of NHS management structures and principles of Clinical Governance.
- Ability to take full, independent responsibility for clinical care and manage clinical risk.
- Understanding of clinical audit principles.
- Understanding of NHS Foundation Trust management and financial challenges.
- Experience implementing service change to enhance quality of patient care.
- Ability to think strategically and provide consultant‑level leadership within the MDT.
- Understanding principles of research and enthusiasm for research involvement.
Applicants must have appropriate UK professional registration. The position is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 and Disclosure and Barring Service checks. DBS processing costs may be recovered via salary deduction.
