Job Description

This position is based at the Lawrence County Extension office, in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. The extension agent is responsible to the County Director for administrative and program matters. The agent will spend 100% of their time with adult horticulture programs.

Duties include:

• Plan, execute, and evaluate the Master Gardener Educational Series program
• Participate as a member and Extension liaison of the Lawrence County Master Gardener Association
• Plan, execute, and evaluate horticultural programming based on a local needs assessment
• Plan, execute, and evaluate horticultural programming for both home-based and commercial horticultural clientele
• Establish and maintain good working relationships with education officials, related agencies, community groups, horticulture-related businesses, and the general public
• Assist 4-H agents in the county with horticulture/gardening activities as needed such as day camps, project work, etc.
• Assume other duties as necessary due to vacancies or as assigned by the Program Leader or TSU Associate Dean of Extension

Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in agriculture, education, or closely related field is required. Experience in Extension, teaching or other youth development activities is preferred. Ability to work a flexible schedule which will include some nights, weekends, and overnight travel. Access to a personal vehicle and the ability to obtain/maintain a valid Tennessee driver’s license. The applicant should also possess the following qualifications: comprehensive knowledge and understanding of program planning, implementation and evaluation;

strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with teams; ability to communicate effectively verbally and in written form using print media, radio, and television; ability to document and market program impacts and provide leadership and demonstrate self-reliance in a collaborative environment; ability to work with UT and TSU Extension programming personnel.
