Project Director

Join Mott Mac Donald as a Project Director in the Transport and Mobility Solutions (TMS) team. This role supports the delivery of Highway projects for predominantly contractor clients across the UK, primarily leading Design and Build or contractor‑led projects from tender, negotiation, construction to handover.

Overview of the Role

As a Project Director, you will be part of the senior leadership team, accountable for overall technical, financial and commercial performance of projects. You may report to a Project Board and oversee a Project Manager and Design Manager. Your duties include:

• Leading project teams from inception to handover.
• Liaising with clients, sponsors and stakeholders.
• Approving reports, tender documents and overseeing cost/schedule.
• Ensuring Health & Safety and Quality Assurance compliance.

Candidate Specification

Professionals should have full awareness of Health & Safety legislation and experience working within the highways sector. You will deliver in a demanding design and build environment, managing client needs and resolving complex issues.

Essential Skills

• Significant experience on highway design and build or contractor‑led projects.
• Attained chartership with a recognised engineering or project management institution.
• Experience establishing and leading project teams, including NEC contract management.
• Proficient in tender budgeting, cost monitoring, overruns resolution and revenue optimisation.
• Principal contact with client senior leadership on commercial and contractual matters.
• Understanding of Designer obligations under CDM Regulations.
• Willingness to travel to client sites or remote offices as required.

Desirable

• Degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
• Project Management Qualification or pursuing one.
• Knowledge of risk management in project delivery.
• Experience managing projects throughout their lifecycle.
