Fire Engineer

Our client is an established, growing fire engineering consultancy known for delivering robust, compliant, and innovative fire safety solutions across residential, commercial, mixed-use, and complex building projects. Operating nationwide, they support the full project lifecycle—from early-stage design through to construction, handover, and in-use compliance. With continued project demand and increased regulatory responsibilities under the Building Safety Act, the business is now seeking an experienced Fire Engineer to join their established technical team.

Responsibilities as a Fire Engineer

As a Fire Engineer, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality Fire Strategies and Fire Statements across all RIBA stages, including specialist support for Gateway 2 submissions. You will work on both new and existing buildings, producing robust, code-compliant solutions that align with UK Building Regulations and industry best practice.

* Developing clear, compliant Fire Strategies for new builds, refurbishments, conversions, and mixed-use schemes.

* Producing Fire Statements for planning applications, including London Plan requirements.

* Providing expert fire safety input from concept through to handover (RIBA Stages 1–6).

* Delivering retrospective Fire Strategies for existing or altered buildings, including PAS 9980-aligned assessments.

* Engaging with architects, MEP consultants, clients, Building Control and Fire Authorities to embed fire safety in design and delivery.

* Reviewing drawings and specifications to ensure compliance and highlight design-critical issues.

* Assisting with performance-based fire engineering methods - compartmentation, means of escape, evacuation modelling, and smoke control strategies.

* Supporting QA processes, technical reviews, and the management of engineering documentation.

* Undertaking site visits, reviews of passive and active fire protection, and monitoring installation quality where required.

Package and Benefits for a Fire Engineer

* Salary: £70,000 – £80,000 (DOE)

What We Are Looking For

* A degree in Fire Engineering, Building Services Engineering, Architectural Engineering or similar (essential).

* Working toward, or holding, IEng/CEng status with IFE or an equivalent body (advantageous).

* Approximately 5 years’ experience within a fire engineering or fire safety consultancy role.

* Proven ability to deliver fire strategies and fire statements across a range of building types.

* Strong technical knowledge of ADB, BS 9991/9999, PAS 9980, and the Building Safety Act 2022.

* Experience or familiarity with Gateway 2 submission requirements.

* Proficiency in interpreting architectural and engineering drawings.

* Strong communication skills, excellent report writing ability, and confidence dealing with clients and design teams.

* Competence in relevant software—AutoCAD, Revit, FDS or similar—would be beneficial.
