Position: M & E Service Technician (Water)

Role Purpose

The M&E Service Technician will play a key role in supporting the delivery of wastewater treatment projects across the UK. The role includes supervising and undertaking mechanical and electrical works, commissioning and troubleshooting equipment, preparing hire orders, supporting procurement and estimates, maintaining stock and materials, and coordinating subcontractors to deliver compliant, efficient and safe project outcomes.

Key Responsibilities Project delivery & supervision
  • Support successful delivery of projects across the UK with particular focus on Midlands, Northern England and Wales.
  • Manage all mechanical and electrical works associated with project delivery.
  • Supervise site supervisors, contractors and support staff where required.
  • Oversee, coordinate and schedule subcontractors and contract labour.
  • Conduct quality checks and ensure contract compliance.
  • Deliver toolbox talks and implement new company procedures (prepare RAMS).
  • Manage works in accordance with NEC contract requirements.
Technical and field-based duties
  • Attend client sites to undertake and supervise mechanical/electrical installation, commissioning and maintenance of modular equipment.
  • Identify site requirements for equipment deployment and assist in preparing hire orders.
  • Troubleshoot equipment performance issues and provide technical support.
  • Support procurement and estimating activities for equipment mobilisation and proposals.
  • Carry out stock management and coordination of plant, materials and deliveries.
  • Produce outline electrical design work for costing purposes and scope development for detailed electrical design by others.
Planning, reporting & stakeholder management
  • Programme works and set targets to ensure milestones are achieved or exceeded.
  • Agree delivery dates and manage programme of works with clients.
  • Provide weekly internal and monthly programme updates to clients.
  • Record track sheets/dayworks and maintain accurate project documentation.
  • Contribute to monthly reports and reviews with commercial team.
  • Ensure regular site records and photographic evidence are uploaded.
  • Promote value engineering initiatives and cost saving opportunities.
  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team across the UK to ensure governance and efficiency in delivery.
Skills & Qualifications
  • NVQ/BTEC or equivalent engineering qualification in Mechanical or Electrical discipline.
  • Incorporated engineer or professional membership of a recognised engineering institution beneficial.
  • Technical background in the water sector, with knowledge of WIMES, relevant UK codes, standards and asset specifications.
  • Operational experience with wastewater treatment products/equipment and strong safety awareness.
  • Experience providing technical/design leadership on major projects – e.g., Design/Project Manager, Project Engineer or Project Leader.
  • Experience working with contractors in a Design & Build environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively across teams, clients and contractors.
  • Good understanding of digital initiatives and application within the water industry.
  • Flexible approach to work locations, with willingness to travel and hybrid/home working where applicable.
  • 18th Edition qualification.
  • SMSTS / SSSTS / CSCS Black Card (or equivalent site safety certification).
