About the Role

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to work within one of the @One Alliance’s four business units. Your work will bolster our mechanical engineering capabilities in the alliance team and provide fresh ideas and perspectives on our ways of working. As we enter AMP8, our most ambitious Asset Management Period yet, we are tackling nature‑based, sustainable solutions such as wetlands and urban drainage schemes.

What you’ll be doing
  • Lead the preparation and analysis of key mechanical options, for review and agreement with the client and key project stakeholders, ensuring risks and gaps are mitigated while upholding the Project Basis of Design.
  • Conduct design calculations to facilitate sizing of mechanical, hydraulic, power generating and building services equipment.
  • Liaise with the supply chain to ensure the latest technologies are assessed and understood as part of the optioneering process.
  • Collaborate with the design team to develop 3D models and solutions.
  • Oversee the outputs for processes including P&IDs, data sheets, HAZID and HAZOP studies, and mechanical input into commissioning plans, including proposed performance tests.
  • Support the team in driving excellence in Health & Safety, demonstrating applied knowledge and skills to produce safe designs and meet CDM Regulations and standards.
  • Identify and promote opportunities to meet the project’s digital, sustainability, innovation and people objectives.
You will ideally have
  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Extensive practical mechanical design experience in a similar environment.
  • Proven track record of designing hydraulic and mechanical systems and products.
  • A good understanding of modular build and construction processes and procedures.
  • Strong collaborative and teamwork skills.
  • Courage to try new things and work differently to safely deliver.

  • Place Based Thinking – delivers large and complex projects across the @One Alliance, managing stations and treatment centres such as Whitlingham, Flag Fen and others.
  • Water – provides strategic support across the clean water network, working on hydraulic resilience and infrastructure planning.
  • Water Recycling (East and West) – responsible for the collection, conveyance and treatment of wastewater across an extensive network, ensuring safe and sustainable discharge.
  • Additional units may offer specialised opportunities aligned to your skills, experience and interests.
