Working Pattern: Flexible hybrid – time split between office and working from home

The Asset Integrity - Built Environment Group is looking for Civil/Structural Consultants to join our respected and thriving specialist team. Our Built Environment group assures the safety of structures and assets, including those subject to extreme hazards. Our integrated team establishes load conditions, structural responses, design solutions, testing programmes, substantiations and assurance against a variety of hazards (e.g. seismic, fire, blast, impact). Each of our projects is unique and we often need to return to first principles and develop bespoke solutions to satisfy our clients’ needs.

While our projects are challenging, the team promotes a collaborative and supportive environment, where knowledge is shared openly. We are always looking to improve—both technically and professionally.

We operate within the wider Asset Integrity area, which includes physical testing, design, research and advanced analysis. The area supports clients in understanding the life, degradation, integrity and performance of materials, components, systems and assets from concept design to decommissioning. We often operate at the interface with other engineering disciplines (mainly mechanical and electrical).

• Nuclear energy (new build, operational fleet and decommissioning)

Your role will vary depending on skills and experience, but would typically include leading the delivery of projects and providing technical oversight covering:

• Structural verification and code assessments (e.g., Eurocode, ASCE, AISC), through software and hand calculations
• Hazard assessment (e.g. seismic, blast, and fire performance modelling) and validation studies
• Concept design and feasibility analysis
• Civil/mechanical/electrical interface definition and integration
• Beyond-code assessments and safety case development
• Groundworks and geotechnical assessment
• Decommissioning and enabling works support
• Structural inspections and regulatory compliance
• Lifecycle extension studies, including degradation mechanism analysis

We’re looking for engineers who want to go beyond technical analysis and who can deliver end-to-end consultancy:

• Lead and shape projects, including managing projects from scoping to delivery
• Engage directly with clients to define project needs and opportunities, and develop long‑term relationships
• Contribute to the direction and development of our team’s capability, including mentoring junior engineers
• Lead development of capability relative to your specialism and own the development of opportunities and work streams

• Chartership or higher with a professional institution such as ICE or IStruct
  
  E or a related discipline
• Experience of working on technically challenging, safety‑critical infrastructure projects
• Experience with client‑facing consultancy work, with a network aligned to your specialism
• A collaborative growth mindset and willingness to work across disciplines and mentor junior team members
• Beneficial technical experience in one or more of the following areas:
  • Code-based assessment (e.g., Eurocode, ASCE, AISC standards)
  • Use of structural tools (e.g., STAAD, ANSYS, ABAQUS, Robot)
