Senior Environmental Sustainability Advisor

About The Role
The role will provide direction, support and guidance to our project teams on all aspects of hands‑on environmental management, meeting legal and company standards and helping deliver a culture of continual improvement. The role will support site‑based project design construction controls and mitigations, sustainability opportunities and deliver against client‑led contractual requirements and BBPTD tactical aspects to achieve our strategic goals. A key part of the role will be engagement with clients, stakeholders, subcontractors, and environmental authorities.
What you'll be doing
- Work closely with project teams to deliver environmental and sustainability commitments, ensuring ongoing compliance with Balfour Beatty BMS and customer requirements, working with clients such as SSEN and/or SPEN.
- Have an expert level ecology bias and experience liaising with regulatory bodies, including but not limited to Nature Scot, SEPA, Marine Scotland and Local Planning Authorities.
- Oversee monthly performance reporting against client KPIs and internal targets, seeking to make continuous improvements in process and quality of data.
- Completion, reviewing, updating of company environmental documentation, sustainability delivery and various environmental risks and opportunities.
- Producing/maintaining permitting and licensing requirements for specific projects.
- Support with awards submission entries.
- Fully interpret policy, regulation, and legislation across the portfolio.
- Providing visible ES support across the portfolio.
- Supports one or more high‑level/value/complex projects through feasibility to post‑construction with the backing of your E & S Team colleagues.
- Ensure and report on environmental compliance.
- Regular site inspections, including those with client or regulatory representatives.
Who we're looking for
- Full driving licence and flexibility to travel.
- Professional membership level of a relevant professional body (IEMA/CIEEM/CIWEM) or ability to demonstrate equivalent experience and competence.
- Good knowledge of environment management with relevant experience working in a construction environment.
- Practical experience and sound knowledge of environmental statutory requirements, including environmental legislation, ecology mitigation, environmental licensing and consent applications and regulation.
- Oversee, develop and direct graduate ES roles across your portfolio.
- Be required to visit worksites and offices across Scotland and attend occasional ES meetings across the UK.
