Environmental Coordinator - Infrastructure Projects (4-year term)

Join the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority, an arm‑length federal agency responsible for stewarding the lands and waters of the Port of Vancouver, in enabling Canada’s trade while protecting the environment and engaging local communities. As an Environmental Coordinator for Infrastructure Projects, you will support the planning and implementation of environmental programs for port authority‑led infrastructure projects.

What You Do
  • Assist in developing detailed environmental effect mitigation and monitoring work plans.
  • Provide support in administering environmental mitigation and program delivery, including overseeing specialist consultants to support mitigation programs.
  • Monitor plan implementation and progress.
  • Tabulate and present monitoring data and assist in interpreting its significance with support from specialist consultants as appropriate.
  • Represent the port authority at meetings with environmental regulatory agencies, community, Indigenous groups and other stakeholders, and where appropriate assist in facilitating competing priorities to ensure port authority interests are met.
  • Support port authority initiatives such as sustainability and environmental programs, and external engagement.
  • Assist in field programs and site visits as required.
  • Write briefing papers, business cases, submissions, reports and presentations to support project planning and compliance.
  • Coordinate the planning, execution, monitoring, reporting and closing of various projects.
  • Track open action items, issues and risks and ensure timely resolution.
  • Assist with the preparation of project cost estimates and progress reports; prepare high‑level schedules for project delivery and resource management.
  • Assist in overseeing site investigation, topographic surveys and other environmental preconstruction and construction contracts.
  • Coordinate and participate in communication and consultation with project stakeholders, including municipalities, road and rail authorities’ adjacent communities and First Nations.
  • Report on project status through internal project tracking systems and participate in preparing monthly status reports.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of guidelines and other documents to support workflow processes.
  • Participate in health and safety initiatives and comply with established policies, procedures and guidelines.
What You Bring
  • Must have a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, Geology, Geo‑Environmental Sciences, Environmental Engineering or another acceptable university degree.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in environmental impact assessment, construction environmental monitoring, or other directly related experience in the delivery of major infrastructure projects in complex multi‑stakeholder environments.
  • Applied experience in environmental aspects of project development, procurement and contract administration.
  • Strong working knowledge of federal and provincial environmental legislation and permitting requirements.
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office tools.
  • Team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively and positively with all contacts, internally and externally.
  • Ability to work independently, accurately and on own initiative with minimum supervision.
  • Highly organized and detail‑oriented, able to manage competing priorities and perform multiple tasks as required.
