FOM) is a forward-thinking mining company redefining the industry. We are seeking a Chief Metallurgist to join our growing McIlvenna Bay team. This is a full-time position based at the McIlvenna Bay site working a 14/14 rotation.

As part of the Mill Operations Team, the Chief Metallurgist is responsible for leading and overseeing all aspects of metallurgical operations. You will drive the optimization of processes, ensure quality control, and contribute to the safe and efficient extraction of valuable minerals at optimum concentrate grades. You will lead a team of metallurgists and collaborate with cross-functional departments to achieve operational excellence and maintain the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and environmental compliance.

Job Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the Metallurgy department, offering mentorship, leadership, and technical support to metallurgists.
  • Develop and execute strategies to optimize mineral processing for higher recovery and production efficiency.
  • Oversee metallurgical test work and research initiatives to enhance processes and drive innovation.
  • Work closely with mining, engineering, and production teams to align metallurgical efforts with operational goals.
  • Monitor and analyze process data to identify trends, troubleshoot issues, and uncover improvement opportunities.
  • Assess and implement new technologies, equipment, and methods to boost processing performance.
  • Allocate resources effectively to meet production targets and maintain quality standards.
  • Ensure all metallurgical activities comply with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare and present technical reports, updates, and recommendations to senior leadership and stakeholders.
  • Lead continuous improvement efforts to enhance performance, reduce costs, and support environmental sustainability.
  • Contribute to long-term planning and development of metallurgical projects to support company growth.
Job Qualifications and Skills
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Metallurgy, Mineral Processing, or related discipline.
  • 8–15+ years of progressive metallurgical experience
  • Experience with copper-zinc flotation preferred.
  • Proven leadership and supervisory experience in a mill or concentrator setting.
  • Strong understanding of mineral processing circuits, particularly for base metals.
  • Experience with metallurgical accounting systems, process control systems, and metallurgical modeling software.
  • Knowledge of environmental, health, and safety regulations relevant to mineral processing.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Compensation and Benefits

We offer a competitive starting salary range of $146,000 - $160,000/year based on experience and qualifications. Annual discretionary short term incentive award at a percentage of base salary, rewarding exceptional contributions to team and company success.
