Your Opportunity
The role of an Intermediate Mechanical Engineer is to work on projects of all sizes. You will be responsible for the engineering of regular designs and assist on advanced designs under the guidance of a Senior Engineer. The position involves calculations, field work, travel, and leadership roles on project scope elements. The home office will be Saskatoon, SK or Sudbury, ON.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Supports project team in development of design documentation, plans and reports for relevant project design elements.
- Assists in development of a design through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats.
- Prepares and revises documentation in various project phases.
- Coordinates with other disciplines to ensure compatibility with the design intent.
- Assists in the review of shop drawings and submittals; responds to RFIs, prepares site observation reports, and performs other contract administration tasks.
- Assists with development of job specific discipline specifications.
- Assists in evaluation and selection of mechanical equipment and materials.
- Attends project coordination meetings with internal team members, external consultants and clients.
- Participates in value engineering and basic cost estimating.
- Performs calculations to analyze and design mechanical systems using company standard software and proprietary manufacturer software.
- Knowledge of mechanical systems, materials, and industry standards for a mining environment.
- Understanding of all phases of engineering document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.
- Recognizes when technical problems are developing and initiates appropriate corrective actions using sound professional judgment.
- Ability to check others work for accuracy and completeness.
- Manages time to meet project budget and schedule.
- Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.
- Ability to interpret sketches, drawings and other similar material.
- Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience with CAD design software is considered a benefit.
- Takes initiative on tasks and in coordinating with other members of the design team.
- Effectively discusses project issues with clients and reviewing agencies.
- Professional Engineering membership, in good standing, with one of Canada’s provincial associations.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- 5 to 20 years of industry experience.
Working Conditions
Typical office environment with long periods of computer work. A 50/50 hybrid home/office schedule is an option. Field work may include exposure to the elements, underground work and may involve travel outside of normal working hours.
