Lead Data Engineer (SQL Azure)

As a Lead Data Engineer you will be responsible for the design, delivery and ongoing evolution of the cloud (Azure) data platform, Microsoft Fabric environments, Data Lakehouse and Data Warehouse solutions that power analytics, reporting, AI and operational decision making. You’ll provide leadership to a small data engineering team, setting the technical direction and mentoring and developing the team while remaining hands‑on designing and building robust data pipelines and data models.

Collaborating with the Head of Technology and wider leadership team you’ll help shape the data roadmap.

There's a flexible hybrid work-from-home model; you’ll join colleagues in the Sheffield office as and when required.

• Strong experience as a Senior Data Engineer or Data Architect on Azure‑based platforms
• Experience with ETL and orchestration tools including Azure Data Factory, Synapse Pipelines and Logic Apps
• Experience with Microsoft Fabric, including Power BI, Lakehouse and Warehouse components
• Advanced SQL skills across SQL Server and Lakehouse environments, including data modelling and coding best practices
• Confident designing data models and building production pipelines from scratch
• Experience of leading or mentoring data engineers or analysts
