Work Location

Downtown, Toronto office. 40 hours per week. Hybrid working (flexible, shared workstations and a combination of office and work from home) is standard for BHP.

Total Rewards

The starting annual salary range for this role is $115,000 - $145,000 CAD. Additional rewards includes a short‑term incentive bonus program, health plan, personal spending account, dental, life insurance, and pension.

Purpose

We are seeking a motivated and proactive individual to join the Geoscience Data team within Exploration Excellence and Innovation, reporting directly to Lead Drilling and Sampling. Hybrid and flexible work arrangements are a standard across BHP. International travel may be required for up to 30% of time to support ongoing exploration activities.

As the Specialist Drilling & Sampling, you will work closely with the Lead Drilling and Sampling to ensure accurate and timely end‑to‑end lifecycle management of Exploration’s drilling & sampling datasets; from acquisition (field campaigns, external data sources) through ingestion into repository, and subsequent delivery to our geoscientists and other stakeholders. Your primary role will be to execute data workflows and implement data best practices across Exploration.

The successful candidate is a highly collaborative individual, who brings a positive, customer‑focused attitude to deliver best‑in‑class data solutions to an ever‑evolving pipeline of Exploration projects.

Since this role will work closely with and deliver solutions to stakeholders across various BHP functions, geographies and time zones, you will require exceptional skills in communicating technical concepts and influencing through relationship building.

About the Role

Solution Delivery:

  • Prepare, validate, ingest drilling and sampling data from field campaigns and other external sources into BHP’s data repositories.
  • Apply QA/QC and data validation workflows to maintain our drilling & sampling data integrity in compliance with established standards; proactively identify gaps or improvement opportunities.
  • Respond to day‑to‑day requests from geoscientists, taking a timely and customer‑centric approach to troubleshooting and disseminating established best practices and protocols.
  • Prioritize multiple requests and ad‑hoc tasks effectively, balancing urgent needs with ongoing initiatives.
  • Collaborate with other Geoscience Data team members (Geospatial, Systems, Central Data Platform and Integration) to deliver integrated geoscience data solutions, embodying a ‘one‑team’ attitude.
  • Implement drilling and sampling data standards, governance and best practices through development of technical documentation and training.
  • Participate in development, testing and deployment of drilling and sampling data tools and systems such as ac Quire, Arena, Seequent Central, Esri etc.
  • Support data modeling, business rule definition, schema creation, data validation, quality assessment and interoperability workflows (APIs, connectors).
  • Support optimization of multiple ac Quire databases into a single, unified data model for global standardization.
  • Contribute to integration and automation efforts between platforms to ensure seamless data migrations and workflow optimization between internally developed platforms and commercial off‑the‑shell solutions.
About You
  • Degree or Diploma in Geoscience or related discipline(such as Earth Sciences, Geomatics, GIS) from a reputable university.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in geoscience and/or business experience in geoscience data applications, with familiarity of mining drilling and sampling data workflows and supporting infrastructure.
