Under the direction of the Senior Transit Planner, the Transit Planner:
- Provides technical input both to Planning, Property & Development Department (PPD) and Public Works Department (PWD) on development plans and projects.
- Manages Transit’s land use monitoring program, in conjunction with PPD.
- Develops and carries out annual transit service plans to accommodate ridership growth in existing areas and introduce service to developing areas.
- Participates in the development and maintenance of geographical information systems to support transit planning and passenger information.
- Assists with the planning and prioritization of transit infrastructure improvements.
This position requires technical knowledge of transportation planning, as well as issues of land-use planning, public engagement, and universal accessibility. The ability to deal directly with the public, with technical personnel (both consultants and City staff), as well as elected officials, is critical to this job.
Duties- Develop plans to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of transit service.
- Manages the land-use and development monitoring program.
- Prepares transit input to the City’s medium and long-range transportation and land-use plans.
- Supervises consultants and support staff.
- Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering, City Planning or Urban/Regional Planning.
- Minimum four years of experience in transit planning, transportation engineering, or urban planning in the public or private sector.
