About the role Join Our Team as a Material Control ManagerPainter Brothers, a UK leader in steel fabrication, is looking for a Material Control Manager to join our small but growing team. In this role, you will be responsible for interpreting, converting, and releasing purchase orders for fabrication, ensuring alignment with business quality standards, timelines, and budgets. You will work closely with Technical Engineers and follow material schedules issued with tenders to keep projects on track.
Reporting directly to the Senior Fabrication Manager
, you will oversee all aspects of stock control, including inventory management, production and cleansing, customer liaison, and the coordination of both customer and internal orders.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and maintain optimal inventory levels to meet production and customer requirements.
- Liaise with suppliers to ensure materials are delivered on schedule.
- Oversee communication with internal and external stakeholders to ensure smooth execution of plans.
- Adhere to company business processes throughout the lifecycle of manufacturing activities.
- Monitor and improve cost control measures.
- Achieve planned dates for purchase orders to meet fabrication and customer delivery timelines.
- Maintain zero order errors (measured weekly).
- Maintain zero material defects (measured weekly).
- Deliver 98% customer delivery performance.
- Control stock levels and maintain low practical value while meeting demand.
- Order all required external materials for structures.
- Provide accurate stock reporting as required annually.
The following skills and experience are required:
- Experience of modern manufacturing practices.
- Experience of purchasing systems (Oracle desired but training will be given
- Driven, positive and friendly character with analytical and thinks out of the box - always encouraging continuous improvement, proactive in approach and can manage change.
- Understanding of customer relationship management processes
- Ability to clearly and concisely communicate both verbally and in writing
- Able to implement and drive performance improvement using lean tools, KPIs and visual management
- Possessing current and relevant knowledge of material controls and best practice
- Capable of working under pressure to ensure deadlines are achieved.
- Capability to respond quickly, decisively, assertively, and professionally to changing requirements in demand, product description and material demand.
- Ability to solve problems and make sound decisions with minimal support from management.
The following qualities/experience are desirable:
- Experience in Steel Fabrication
- Buying, stock taking, and material control experience would be advantageous.
