Are you a Mechanical Engineer who thrives on innovation, not maintenance? I’m recruiting on behalf of a leading UK solar infrastructure business that is investing heavily in R&D and expanding its dedicated Product Innovation team. If you want to play a key role in developing next‑generation products, materials and components, this is an exceptional opportunity.
The Role – Joining a Growing Innovation FunctionYou’ll work across the full innovation lifecycle – from early concept development through to 3D modelling, prototyping, testing and validation. This is hands‑on, future‑focused engineering, where your work will directly shape upcoming product lines and influence design, efficiency and performance across the business.
What You’ll Be Doing- Create and refine new mechanical components using 3D CAD (Autodesk, Solid Works).
- Produce assemblies, prototypes and detailed engineering drawings.
- Optimise designs through value engineering and design‑for‑manufacture principles.
- Participate in prototyping and structured mechanical testing programmes.
- Carry out hand calculations, tolerance assessments and FEA (where required).
- Support technical sign‑off, documentation, and engineering governance.
- Collaborate with Structural, Manufacturing, Procurement and Operations teams.
- Provide technical input to internal teams on product behaviour and performance.
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master’s desirable).
- Strong 3D CAD experience.
- Solid grounding in mechanical design, materials and manufacturing processes.
- Experience with value engineering and design optimisation.
- Analytical, methodical and comfortable working across multiple projects.
- Strong communication skills and confidence collaborating with varied teams.
- UK driving licence and willingness to travel occasionally for testing and R&D work.
- Right to work in the UK without VISA sponsorship.
Desirable: experience in solar PV, steel structures, fabrication, materials science, or design automation.
