Safety Coach - Sizewell C - Earthworks & Enabling Works - Suffolk Site based
Be part of this ‘once in a generation’ project that will deliver clean energy to 6 million homes for the next 60 years. Sizewell C will see the creation of a 3.2 Gigawatt nuclear power station on the Suffolk coast to provide reliable low‑carbon electricity.
About the RoleThe Safety Coach will play a pivotal role in adopting a culture of safety excellence across the SZC project. The role will engage directly with teams on‑site, facilitating open conversations about task planning, risk awareness, and safe execution. The aimed outcome is to embed safety in every decision and action, protecting people, assets, and the environment.
Key Responsibilities- Facilitate safety conversations: discuss task planning, identify potential hazards, and agree on safe work methods.
- Coach desired behaviours: provide guidance and mentoring to reinforce a positive safety culture.
- Observe and give feedback: conduct on‑site observations and provide constructive feedback to individuals and teams.
- Support continuous improvement: identify opportunities to improve safety performance and share best practices.
- Act as a trusted advisor: build relationships with delivery teams, using credibility to influence safe decision‑making.
- Champion CWA safety standards: ensure alignment with project safety requirements, procedures, and regulatory obligations.
- Report and escape: document observations and raise significant risks or unsafe behaviours.
- Extensive site experience in construction, engineering, or major project delivery environments.
- Solid understanding of health, safety, and environmental principles, legislation, and best practices.
- Coaching and mentoring skills: influence behaviours through positive engagement rather than enforcement.
- Excellent communication and listening skills to build trust and encourage open dialogue.
- Observation and analysis skills to identify unsafe behaviours and conditions and give constructive feedback. Problem‑solving ability to find practical safe solutions to challenges in task execution.
- Credibility and integrity: respected for experience and sound judgment; a role model for safety culture.
- Adaptability to work across diverse teams and disciplines in a dynamic project environment.
- 42 hours per week.
- Smart working flexibility: staggered start/finish times and up to 40% remote working where roles allow.
- 25 days paid annual leave (pro‑rate).
