Stantec is seeking a Senior Project Manager/ Technical Lead, Conveyance to join our Water team. The role will be based in Toronto or Stoney Creek (hybrid).
This position leads and develops designs for technically challenging storm, sanitary and watermain conveyance projects across the Toronto, GTA and Windsor regions. You will work as a technical lead alongside a Project Manager and supporting team, guiding municipal conveyance designs on a broad variety of projects—from small diameter sewers and water mains to large box‑culverts with complex utilities. The role offers opportunity to mentor developing professionals.
YourKey Responsibilities
- Perform civil conveyance design for watermain, storm, and sanitary sewer projects from preliminary design to detailed design, tendering and construction inspection, while minimizing environmental and permitting impacts.
- Prepare and guide engineering calculations, design drawings, technical specifications, and construction documents.
- Develop proposals and technical reports as the technical lead of the project team.
- Manage project deliverables and schedules in partnership with the project manager.
- Undertake quality assurance and quality control of engineering drawings and reports.
- Provide guidance on coordination with construction activities, including input and clarification of the design during construction.
- Strong capability of developing municipal conveyance designs for water and wastewater infrastructure from conceptual level to detailed design and construction.
- Ability to work in a flexible office environment, including remote work from home.
- Strong ability to read and interpret 2D and 3D CAD drawings, as well as geotechnical reports for construction risk and supports.
- Thorough understanding of construction methods (open‑cut, trenchless including microtunneling, jack and bore) for sewer and water infrastructure.
- Understanding of storm and sanitary sewer rehabilitation, such as relining, is considered an asset.
- Demonstrates strong understanding of conveyance system construction elements to select construction methods and define work area limits.
- Guides junior and intermediate designers and supporting team members to develop skills and deliver collective project outcomes, being recognized as a technical leader.
- Collaborates in a project team setting and engages in creative and critical thought.
- Completes tasks to meet project budget and schedule.
- Demonstrates creativity, foresight, and engineering judgment in anticipating and solving problems.
- Strong engineering concepts understanding and ability to communicate ideas to others.
- Project management experience (budgeting, scheduling, coordination between stakeholders) is an asset.
- Effectively communicates project issues with the project manager, team, and clients during execution.
- Strong presentation, technical, and communication skills.
- Understanding of Microsoft Office Suite is required; proficiency in engineering applications such as AutoCAD and Micro Station is an asset.
- Implements industry standards and manuals, including client and regulatory agency requirements; knowledge of City of Toronto Sewer and Watermain Design Criteria and Specifications is an asset.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Environmental or Civil Engineering from an accredited university.
- Professional Engineer or Certified Engineering Technologist registered in Ontario.
- Minimum of 15 years of municipal conveyance design experience, including related co‑op or internship work.
