Position: Spine Animator (Remote Based)

Role Overview

As a Spine Animator, you’ll be responsible for rigging and animating 2D characters, creatures, and UI elements using Esoteric Spine. You’ll work closely with concept artists and tech teams to ensure your animations are game-ready, optimized, and stylistically aligned with each project.

Responsibilities

Rig and animate 2D assets (characters, props, VFX) using Spine.

Collaborate with art leads and game designers to understand animation goals.

Create fluid and appealing animations with strong timing, weight, and personality.

Export and deliver animation assets optimized for Unity or other game engines.

Work within deadlines and adjust based on feedback quickly and efficiently.

Maintain naming conventions and clean project organization for seamless hand-off.

Requirements

3+ years of experience using Spine in a production environment.

Portfolio/demo reel showcasing high-quality 2D game animations.

Strong understanding of animation principles (timing, squash/stretch, easing).

Experience working in stylized animation styles (cartoon, anime, etc.).

Ability to work with remote teams, take direction, and iterate effectively.

Familiarity with asset pipelines and Unity animation integration.

Bonus Points

Experience with VFX animation or particle systems.

Ability to draw key frames or fix character breakdowns as needed.

Familiarity with other 2D animation tools (e.g., Adobe After Effects, Dragon Bones).

Technical knowledge of mesh deformation, constraints, or export scripts in Spine.

Experience working with game studios or outsourcing clients internationally.
