George Earle is a 28 bed acute medical ward specialising in Stroke and also patients with neurological conditions and acute medical issues. We have 3 hyper acute beds to enable rapid stroke treatment to take place. You will work as a valued part of the MDT ensuring the delivery of excellent clinical care within the stroke unit environments, taking an active role in the assessment and care of our patients alongside the trained nurse and MDT.

You will be supported with a ward specific induction enabling you to understand the varied roles that make up the team, alongside stroke specific care, and how you fit into the team.

Working clinically you will support the team to provide safe and quality care to the designated patients in your care, and to support the ward as a whole as needed.

Following training you will undertake various clinical tasks including Cannulation and Venepuncture, Wound Care, taking vital signs and escalating any issues, recording them accurately, performing ECGs, blood sugar checks and adult assessments including MUST scoring.

• Interview patients and carers as part of the assessment process
• Manual handling of patients and loads and use of mechanical aids
• Undertake and record clinical observation, routine tests, and outcome measures
• Prioritising and documenting care. Monitoring clinical observations, and multitasking and adapting through shift as required.

• Evidence of relevant knowledge and skills in the field of Stroke or medical patients
• Good written and verbal skills
• Basic IT skills
• GCSE or Equivalent in Maths and English
• Relevant NVQ level 3 or equivalent training
• Care experience/NHS experience in last 5 years
• Working knowledge of Adult Safeguarding

• Proven experience of assisting with intimate personal care activities e.g. washing, toileting, etc
• Detailed knowledge of and ability to use, patient handling and technical equipment relevant to patient group
• Experience of working as part of a MDT
• Awareness of MCA and Do Ls
