Weare currently recruiting for dedicated individuals to join our growing teamin the Genomics Central Laboratory at Leeds St Jamess University Hospital,as Clinical Scientists.
Working closely with colleagues at Leeds and across the wider North East and Yorkshire (NEY) region, youll be responsible for the:
Delivery and scientific development of a high-quality diagnostic laboratory genetics service
Scientific leadership in service provision for a specified clinical area
Providing advice to consultants andother service users
Making contributions to shapenational best-practice

Main duties of the jobHCPC-registered Clinical Scientist with evidenced Genomics experience (including Clinical Scientists from other
STP disciplines); or
Final year (or late second year)
Clinical Scientist trainee on an accredited training programme (e.g. STP orequivalence) with evidenced genomic experience; or
MSC or PHD in Genetics, with significant laboratory and analytical experience in a relevant clinical setting*; or
HCPC-registered biomedicalscientists (BMS) with genomics experience in a relevant clinical setting*
* Wouldbe appointed at an appropriate grade until HCPC registration as a Clinical Scientist by portfolio submission via ACS which you should expect to be ableto deliver within 12m.

The Leeds Central Genomics laboratory is responsible for delivering the highthroughput Next Generation Sequencing facility for the GLH, based around
NovaSeq, Next Seq
550DX and Genexus platforms with associated technical andbioinformatics support to deliver an efficient service, in addition to abroad spectrum of equipment and technologies to support a full genomiclaboratory.
Over £4m has been invested in new and cutting-edge equipment in the last fouryears.

JOB DIMENSIONS
The Leeds Genetics Laboratory at St Jamess University Hospital provides adiagnostic Genetic Service to the population of Yorkshire and Humber.
Specialist diagnostic genetic services are provided at a national and international level, using a current annual budget of approximately £3millionand with over 70 staff, of which 35 are trained Clinical Scientists. The laboratory processes over 25,000 genetics samples per year, and generatesaround 20,000 reports, many of which are highly complex.
Thepost holder will independently discuss, advise and challenge clinicians and scientists, including Consultants (both from genetics and other disciplines) and GPs on the complex interpretation of results which may be sensitive…
