Role Overview
As ultrasound Clinical Tutor you will be responsible for delivering and coordinating ultrasound education to ultrasound practitioners within the Trust including trainee sonographers, midwives, nurses and medical trainees. You will also deliver training in ultrasound governance and support improvements through peer audit, QA and local assurance processes.
ResponsibilitiesCarry out and report on specialised ultrasound examinations to a high standard, be an independent practitioner with full accountability, and issue ultrasound reports with NMC/HCPC registration and a Post Graduate Certificate in Medical Ultrasound.
Lead the coordination and delivery of ultrasound training to the following staff groups:
- Ultrasound students undertaking postgraduate ultrasound training
- Medical trainees
- Nursing and midwifery staff undertaking ultrasound training
- Other professionally qualified health professionals using ultrasound in clinical practice
Undertake clinical and teaching sessions in the following areas:
- Obstetric Ultrasound scanning
- Gynaecology Ultrasound scanning
- General Medical Scanning (abdominal and superficial Ultrasound imaging)
- Leg vein Doppler Ultrasound scans
- Any new techniques or future developments
Act independently, interpret scan findings and produce written free‑text reports on examinations performed.
Excellent communication skills are essential due to the need to deliver highly sensitive and upsetting information to patients and relatives.
Coordinate the Trust‑wide Ultrasound Governance, clinical audit and peer review programmes.
Implement, maintain and update the Imaging Department education and training strategy, associated protocols and procedures, and conduct annual training needs analysis.
Ensure mandatory training compliance rate meets Trust targets and maintain key links between the Imaging Department and associated higher education institutions.
Contribute to the strategic development of education of students, staff and services users at local, regional and national levels; facilitate an effective learning environment; evaluate the impact of educational interventions.
Act as a point of contact for Imaging Department staff wishing to attend courses, conferences, events or commence postgraduate study and ensure study leave applications are processed as per the Trust Study Leave policy.
QualificationsHolding a Post Graduate Ultrasound qualification (PGC/D in Medical Ultrasound) and being an experienced sonographer. Registration on the voluntary SCoR sonographer, HCPC or NMC registration is also expected.
